One of the biggest obstacles in trying to lose weight is not the diet or exercise but having the motivation to lose weight and not giving up.  Here are a couple of things you can do to keep focused and motivated to reach your weight loss goal.

Steer Clear of Temptation — Thinking smart is the first step to staying motivated to lose weight. If chocolate is one of your weaknesses, it’s a lot easier for you to resist it if it’s not anywhere near you. If a bag of chips is in the kitchen and you are craving it real bad, you will probably cave in and say “well..just this once”, sorry buddy but you have lost the game. Don’t take any chances by having those foods in the the house.

Set Realistic Goals – Have goals that can be easily attainable. Having goals that are not impossible to reach can be your motivation for weight loss. Try to stick to a healthier weight loss goal by not trying to lose weight too fast.

Reward Yourself — Try to reward yourself once in awhile when you’ve stuck to your weight loss program. Rewarding yourself for job well done will help give you a good push during hard times and it will help make you feel good about you sticking to your weight loss plan.Treat yourself to something you would not have on a normal day, from eating your favorite dessert to buying yourself that watch you’ve been dying to have.

Go Easy on Yourself —If you haven’t met your goals for the week or month, don’t beat yourself up about it. Feeling discouraged isn’t going to help you lose weight. Use those times as a way to sit back and examine what can improve in your weight loss plan.

Stay One Step Ahead of Hunger – Being hungry all the time isn’t going to help you on your diet. Eat several small meals a day instead of three will keep you motivated and one step ahead of hunger. This will help you feel less hungry throughout the day and help spread out the calories throughout the day. Drinking water is not only healthy for you but it help fills your stomach up so you don’t feel as  hungry.

Find an Activity that You Enjoy — If you want to lose weight try to make weight loss fun, it can be very motivating. If soccer is a passion you should join a soccer team. If swimming is more your thing, go to your local community pool or if your lucky enough to have one in your backyard. Doing things that you love to do is a great way to lose weight because you don’t have to force yourself to do it.
